ultimate bloma recipe request

i volunteered to be the lucky wanker who'll provide bloody marys for us soon-to-be tired crewpeople at the ambient mafia party this saturday, and i thought i'd ask the masters of bloma mixology, you lovely people, for some assistance on a kickass, foolproof recipe.

it's only a week away, so infusing vodka with a habanero will be kind of fruitless (though i really want to thanks to yosh's inspiration), but i was thinking of going with the usual worchestershire sauce, horseradish, olives/olive juice, bacon bits (:D), but the bloma mix is crucial and i doubt v8 spicy will fit the grade, and i'm always confused what tastes better - lime or lemon...

halp if you can peas.. :)

Travis, Colette and I put together one HELLUVA BloMa mix...from SCRATCH!!!

In addition to the basics, we added: 2 habaneros, 2 vodka soaked Thai Dragon peppers, a dash of vinegar, salt, and cumin. Methinks. It's a bit fuzzy, being that Smoke was doing her usual damage to our poor leetle brains...

It came out really lumpy, since we just used a Kitchenaide hand mixer to blend it. But then, I put the concoction in Travis' juicer and....ouila! We had a very hot, very tasty mix!!!

awesome new ingreedient i stumbled across

which does wonders for improvising the absence of just about ANY ingreedient other than mix/vodka/ice, pepper, and lime...

vietnamese spicy garlic sauce. it's red, with i assume little yellow spicy pepper seeds in it. it can probably be purchased at any asian market in sf, but i found it by accident in north beach at a middle eastern liquor store when looking to improv a desparately needed friday morning bloma for a coworker. it really does the trick. not sure what the trick is, but it does it.

just thought i'd share.

oh yeah, and pepperoncini juice works REALLY well for olive juice in a pinch. not that one would be more accessible than the other, in general circumstances, but ya never know.

2. a few dollops, or more......no definately more than few......of tabasco
3. pepper
4. celery salt
5. horseradish
6.1/4 trader's joe's blue crab bay mix? (is that right, shit it's been too long)
7. Very cold Vodka
8. Olive Juice or Peppercini juice
9. Pickled Crispy Spiced Beans (sold @ Cost Plus....garlicky crispy pickled green beans)
10. a dollop of worcester sauce
11. half of a sqouzen lime
12. A celery stick if you want, garnish with some cilantro for the hell of it if want to.....
13. Mix
14. Straw
15. Drink, kick back, enjoy.....even if it's 4:22 am........just dont ask for one at a bar before 9am.......

But at my bar, they are open all the time.....

OK, OK. I know I've been slipping too... I take pictures of ingredients that are a martini short of a bloma... (missing the olives and the voldka) and I had a dream last night that involved martinis too... weird.

anyways, last night I made less than spectacular blomas for mr beytah and myself, and I decided that I'm slippin. Maybe its cause I dont have master yoshi around to keep me in check or just not enough blood thirsty merry drinkers around to appreciate the spice of life...

whatever it is, it is no more! I want everyone in here to recruit a bloma drinker this weekend, and corrupt the world into bloody madness! Get a friend to drink one with you and come back here and tell me how damn good it was. If you made it, tell me what was in it. If you get it somwhere, tell me when and where.

I know you bloody freaks will jump at this chance to drink a bloma and brag about it... so DO IT.

So, for the past coupla nights in a row, I've kinda sorta forgotten to eat dinner. I've also been drinking BloMas, generally two big ones a night. I'm wondering, only half jokingly, if I forget to eat because a good thick BloMa is very much like a meal in itself, or if I'm becoming a scary alcoholic who will eventually stop eating solid food altogether. Living with Becky, this seems highly unlikely, of course.

The weird thing is, I feel just fine when I wake up. And not hungry at all. What's the dealio?

Store bought mixes...

Sam and I discovered this horror last night when we used this stuff called...oh crap, the name escapes me. Something like Cali's Finest. Like the third ingredient in it was, of course, Worschester sauce. Yuck! It was just horribly salty and one couldn't even taste the tomato in it at all. After that, we tried the Bloody Mary mix made by Tabasco. It was decent, but not hot enough at all.

But I tend to like things hot. For this reason, I use another Bloody Mary mix, made by Mr. & Mrs. T, and dubbed "Bold and Spicy", as my base, and then add all the other accoutrements to it. I dash of horseradish, a squirt of Worschester, some decent vodka (I'm using Skyy right now), celery salt, a bit of ground pepper, and of course, more Tabasco and a squeeze of lime.

Great, now I'm at work, craving what I cannot have here again...

Is something I normally despise. However, a little dab in a Bloody Mary is a good thing. It gives it heat of a different nature, as well as tweeking the flavor a wee bit. Earlier tonight, Becky toasted some really good local bread in the oven, and knowing how good salsa tastes on bread, elusively dipped a little of the bread in my Bloody Mary, and lifted it to my mouth.

It was fucking AWESOME! The sourdoughish taste of the bread combined perfectly with the tangy tomato spicyness of the Bloody Mary mix. Yum!!!

I know, it's unconventional. You people would never dare try this...would you?

A Bloody Mary is a very versatile drink, for the following reasons:

1. It just tastes fucking good: "Say it Theodore"..."It's FUCKING good, sir!" (Free CD for whoever identifies the movie and the peeps who had this deep conversation)

2. The ingredients are healthy, mostly. Make it your regimen for a few weeks and you'll see. You won't see straight, but you'll see.

3. If you even have a teeny bit of something resembling a life, there's really no telling what time of day you'll wake up hung over. 'Nuff said.

4. You can order a Bloody Mary anywhere, and they'll at least have a clue as to how to make it.

5. In cold weather, the spice of a Bloody Mary warms you up from the inside.

6. In a pinch, if you're outta salsa, you can just dip your chip while you sip. (This comes from the Big Book of Bukowski, available in a dumpster near you.)

7. If someone really pisses you off, it's the perfect drink to throw in their face. Make sure to weigh whether watching the person writhe in agony is truly worth losing this sacred concoction.

That's all I can think of off the top of my badly shaved head. Feel free to add to the mix...
